For Space Week, we looked at making our own rocket. We discussed rockets, what they are used for and what type of energy powers the rocket to 'blast off'. We then collected the material we would need-a film canister, some blue tack and half an Alka-Seltzer tablet. We attached the blue tack and Alka-Seltzer tablet to the cap of the film canister. Then we filled the film canister to a 1/4 of its capacity. We went outside for the fun part.
We placed the cap on the film canister and placed it on a step outside. We turned the film canister upside so that the Alka-Seltzer tablet and water would come into contact with each other to cause a chemical reaction. We all made sure to keep well back. Look at our results-It was so much fun!!!
As part of Space Week, we invited a guest speaker from Kerry Astronomy Club to talk to us about all things space related and to answer some questions. Our guest speaker was inundated with some very tricky questions.
Ms Sorcha Ryan’s 3rd Class have been looking at Space. They have looked at the Planets, the Moon and they looked at Light for Science, in particular Transparency and Opaque. They got to test several items to see if they were transparent or opaque.
